Privacy Policy
How the Studence student attendance app collects, uses, stores, and protects information — including student, attendance, location, camera/face-verification, device, and notification data.
Last Updated: August 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Shurt Tech ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use the Studence mobile application ("App").
The App is a student attendance management system that allows students to view scheduled classes, verify their presence at the classroom, complete face verification, mark attendance, and, where applicable, provide time-limited location information during an active class attendance session.
By using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
Depending on how you use the App and the features enabled by your institution, we may collect the following categories of information.
1.1 Student and Account Information
We may collect information required to create and manage your student account, including:
- Full name
- Student ID or enrollment number
- Email address
- Mobile phone number
- Institution, department, course, semester, or class information
- Account credentials or authentication information
- Profile information provided by the institution or by you
This information is used to identify your account and associate your attendance with the correct student.
2. Class and Attendance Information
The App may collect and process information relating to your academic attendance, including:
- Scheduled classes
- Subject/course information
- Classroom information
- Class date and time
- Attendance status
- Attendance timestamp
- Attendance records
- Attendance verification results
- Information relating to attendance corrections or disputes
This information is used to record and manage attendance for scheduled classes.
3. Location Information
3.1 Classroom Location and Geofencing
The App may use your device's location to determine whether you are within or near the designated classroom/location associated with a scheduled class.
Location information may be used to:
- Determine whether you are within the permitted classroom geofence;
- Enable attendance marking when you are physically present at the designated location;
- Associate an attendance event with the relevant classroom;
- Help prevent attendance from being marked from an unauthorized location.
3.2 Location During an Active Class Session
After you successfully complete the attendance verification process for a scheduled class, the App may collect your location during the active class attendance session.
This location collection may continue when the App is running in the background or when your device screen is locked.
This functionality is used to help verify that the attendance session remains associated with the scheduled classroom during the class.
Location tracking is limited to the relevant class attendance session. Tracking is designed to:
- Start after the required attendance verification has been successfully completed;
- Continue only during the applicable scheduled class session; and
- Automatically stop when the scheduled class session ends.
The App is not intended to continuously track your location outside an active class attendance session.
3.3 Location Permission
The App may request location permissions that allow location information to be accessed while the App is in use and, where required for the class-session attendance feature, while the App is running in the background.
You may manage location permissions through your device settings. Restricting required location permissions may prevent certain attendance and classroom-verification features from functioning correctly.
4. Camera and Face Verification
The App may request access to your device camera to perform face verification as part of the attendance process.
Face verification is used to help confirm that the student attempting to mark attendance is the student associated with the account.
The camera may be accessed when you actively initiate or participate in the attendance verification process.
Important: Face Data Processing
Editorial decision required — publish only ONE of the two statements below.
Select the statement that accurately reflects the App's technical implementation and remove the other before this page goes live. Do not publish both.
Option A — If face processing occurs on the device and no face data is sent to your server:
Face verification is performed on the device using the information captured by the camera. The App does not upload or store the captured facial image or facial template on our servers for this verification process, unless otherwise stated in this Privacy Policy.
Option B — If facial images or facial templates/embeddings are sent to or stored on your server:
Facial information collected during the verification process may be transmitted to and/or stored on our servers for the purpose of verifying student identity and preventing unauthorized attendance. Such information is handled only for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy and in accordance with applicable law and institutional requirements.
